In October 2019, the Global Network of Water Museums launched The Water We Want, its first Youth Prize Contest calling to action young students between the age of 6 and 18 to share their perspective on water heritage and climate change through drawings, photos and videos. Students, teachers and water museums from all over the world participated in the contest with a great deal of enthusiasm and fantastic creative works, overcoming the great challenges of the last months.
Today on International Museum Day, the Global Network is thrilled to announce the final 6 winners of The Water We Want 2020 which have been selected among 400 entries overall, from more than 20 water museums worldwide and with the participation of almost 7000 students. The quality of the works submitted proved to be so impressive that the Jury also appointed special mentions for each category (drawing, photos, videos) and for each age group (6-12, 13-18).
“On IMD, it is important recalling that all institutions and museums displaying any kind of water heritage must pay attention not only to their preservation and right transmission of dense layers of history encapsulated by our precious liquid assets but also to their links to the global water crisis” – declares Eriberto Eulisse, the Director of the Global Network of Water Museums.
All the winning works and the special mentions, along with all the entries shortlisted internally by the WAMU-NET museums who answered the call of the contest, will feature soon in a digital online exhibition where it will be possible to browse through the amazing artworks produced by the students and the stories they tell.
